Blessed Pauline Marie Jaricot was born in Lyon on July 22, 1799. She was the foundress of the Society of the Propagation of the Faith and in order to celebrate this day and remember her, a mass will be held in the Saint John Paul II chapel of the Maison de Lorette, home of Blessed Pauline Jaricot in Lyon, to say ‘thank you’ to those who support and have supported the mission of the PMS over time.

Monsignor Patrick Le Gal, Auxiliary Bishop of Lyon, will preside the Mass at 12 p.m. on July 22, offering the Eucharistic sacrifice for the souls of those who bequeathed all or part of their possessions for the missions. The donation of these people is part of a long and virtuous ‘chain’ of those who, during these more than 200 years, have supported and sustained the Pontifical Missionary Societies through prayer and offering according to the intuition of Blessed Jaricot, of whom the Pope said on the occasion of her beatification: “This faithful laywoman, who  lived during the first half of the 1800s, was a courageous woman, attentive to the changes taking place at the time, and had a universal vision regarding the Church’s mission. May her example enkindle in everyone the desire to participate through prayer and charity in the spread of the Gospel throughout the world!”
