AUSTRALIA: "HOPE", A CENTURY OF MISSION TROUGH THE LENS

23 October 2026

Marking 100 years of World Mission Sunday, the photographic exhibition Hope celebrates the encounters, faith and hope that connect communities around the world.

What does hope look like? This is the question at the heart of Hope, a photographic exhibition presented by Catholic Mission to celebrate the centenary of World Mission Sunday.

Featuring photographs captured over the past decade across Africa, Asia and beyond, the exhibition shares faces, stories and encounters that reveal the power of faith, care and solidarity. Historical World Mission Sunday posters accompany the images, tracing a century of missionary commitment.

“Every photograph began with an encounter, a moment when two people connected and the distance between their worlds disappeared,” says Simone Medri, Director of Communications and Digital at Catholic Mission.

Hope invites visitors to look beyond the photographs and encounter the people behind them, their dreams and their stories. Hope is not something we simply bring to others; it is something we discover and nurture together through listening, learning and being present to one another.

In 2026, under the theme “One in Christ, united in mission”, World Mission Sunday renews the invitation to recognise our shared responsibility for mission and our connection as one human family.

The exhibition is available online from 22 October 2026 at catholicmission.org.au/exhibition, and in person at Australian Catholic University in North Sydney from 23 October to 9 November 2026.
