Visit of the Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union

Father Anh Nhue Nguyen, Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union, made an official visit to Luxembourg from September 19 to 22, 2025. He was welcomed by the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), Father Claude Bache. After visiting the offices of the Luxembourg PMS and celebrating Mass in the parish church of Bettembourg, Father Nguyen dedicated the evening to a moment of fraternal sharing. The following day, he met with the directors from Benelux, who have taken the first steps toward the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the publication of the Exhortation Church in Europe 2028. In the evening, he traveled to the north of the country, where he celebrated Holy Mass with Father Maurice Péporté, touching the hearts of the participants with his missionary enthusiasm.

Earlier that afternoon, he met with Auxiliary Bishop Leo Wagener, who welcomed him as a representative of the archdiocese and offered his support for a prayer initiative for retired clergy and religious. Despite their infirmities, they are called to pray for the concerns of the Pontifical Missionary Union and the missions in general, thus continuing to contribute to the formation and development of the Church. On Sunday, September 21, Father Nguyen also met with the children of Grevenmaacher parish and in the evening celebrated Holy Mass in Roodt-sur-Syre. On Monday, he traveled to Trier, Germany, where he met with missionary coordinator Thomasz Welke, who illustrated the close collaboration between the Pontifical Mission Societies of Luxembourg and the Diocese of Trier, as well as their diocesan activities. At the end of his trip, Father Nguyen visited the seminary in Luxembourg.
