NIGERIA: The importance of the Pontifical Missionary Union in the work of the Diocese of Ekiti
In June, the Diocese of Ekiti organized a significant meeting on the Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU) under the theme “Re-evaluating our attitude towards Mission and reawakening missionary responsibility among priests and religious”. The meeting was honored by the presence of the local Ordinary, His Exc. Msgr. Felix Femi Ajakaye, and was attended by the Diocesan Director of the local Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) and the Diocesan Coordinator of PMU, priests and consecrated persons working in the Diocese of Ekiti. Bishop Ajakaye stressed the need to revitalize PMU within the Diocese and further encouraged the assembly to commit to making PMU an active and integral part of the Diocese’s missionary work. The PMS Diocesan Director, Father Joseph Abegunde, recalled the crucial role that PMU plays in animating and guiding the missionary activities of the Diocese, while the PMU Diocesan Coordinator, Father Felix Odesanmi, urged priests and religious to share ideas and reflections on the challenges and joys of missionary work. The event not only reaffirmed the importance of PMU in the mission of the Diocese, but also strengthened the bonds among the participants.
