MEXICO: The 52nd edition of the National Assembly of Diocesan Directors of Missions concluded with an assessment of the past year and future challenges
From 12 to 16 January, the 52nd edition of the National Assembly of Diocesan Directors of Missions was held, with the aim of evaluating the work accomplished in 2025 and planning the activities scheduled for the current year.
During the inauguration, Father Antonio de Jesús Mascorro Tristán, MG, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of Mexico, thanked those present for their participation and their efforts, which have borne abundant fruit, and recalled that the “diocesan director of missions must be a sign and instrument of the missionary identity of the Church.” Monsignor Joseph Spiteri, Apostolic Nuncio to Mexico, one of the speakers present, noted that Mexico is the only country where the PMS are also episcopal, a sign of true communion within the Church. He urged the directors to help the faithful “recognize the fundamental importance of the missions and to support [the missionaries] who are [...] where the Church is still young and growing.”
During the sessions of the Assembly, during which the 100th anniversary of the establishment of World Mission Day was commemorated by many, the directors, mission leaders and representatives of the dioceses had the opportunity to learn more about the PMS, their history, their function and their role directly from the four national secretaries of the Mexican PMS. They also forged relationships and worked actively to launch local projects. In addition to moments of work and reflection, the participants experienced moments of prayer and reflection, fraternal sharing and mutual exchange.
“The National Assembly is an opportunity for encounter, prayer, fraternal dialogue, formation and fellowship. It also offers opportunities for formation, decision-making and planning our journey in the light of the Holy Spirit and the new challenges of evangelization,” said Father Mascorro.
