As part of the 2026 Centenary Celebration of World Mission Sunday, Msgr Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen, OFM Conv., Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union in Rome, conducted animation and formation courses in four dioceses of Malawi: Mzuzu, Mangochi, Blantyre, and Dedza.

The formation sessions reached over 299 participants across the four dioceses, including priests, religious sisters, brothers, and lay faithful. Participation was as follows:

Diocese of Mzuzu: over 115 participants
Diocese of Mangochi: over 50 participants
Archdiocese of Blantyre: 60 participants
Diocese of Dedza: 74 participants

During these sessions, participants were encouraged and formed to better understand and live the Holy Father’s message for the centenary celebration of World Mission Sunday: “One in Christ, United in Mission.”

Msgr Nguyen helped participants deepen their understanding of the Church’s missionary identity and their responsibility to take an active part in the mission of evangelisation. The sessions emphasised the importance of unity in Christ, missionary cooperation, and the shared responsibility of all the baptised to proclaim the Gospel.

Participants showed great attentiveness, enthusiasm, and interest throughout the formation sessions. Their thoughtful comments and reactions at the end of the presentations reflected their appreciation of the Holy Father’s message and their desire to deepen their missionary commitment.

These formation courses made an important contribution to the spiritual preparation for the centenary celebration of World Mission Sunday in Malawi. They also strengthened the commitment of clergy, religious, and lay faithful to renew their missionary spirit and work together in proclaiming the Gospel, united in Christ and in service to the universal Church.
