After the anniversaries of the Pontifical Missionary Societies celebrated in 2022, the Korean national direction felt the need to publish a small booklet on its history and founders. In fact, May 3, 2022 marked the bicentenary of the birth of the Society of the Propagation of the Faith, founded by the Venerable Pauline Jaricot (1799-1862), and the centenary of Pope Pius XI's Motu proprio 'Romanorum Pontificum' with which the Holy Father designated three of the four Missionary Societies as 'Pontifical': the Pontifical Society of the Propagation of the Faith, the Pontifical Society of the Holy (Missionary) Childhood, and the Pontifical Society of St Peter the Apostle for the formation of indigenous clergy in mission territories. Since then, the Korean faithful who got to know the PMS as well as the donors, have been asking for information materials to get to know and learn more about this missionary reality. This desire gave rise to the idea of producing this small volume in Korean where the life of the founders of the four Pontifical Missionary Societies is recounted in a concise but exhaustive manner, with the aim of making people understand the precious and singular contribution that each Society has offered and continues to offer to support missionary activities, formation and missionary animation.
