"Missions are the heart of the Church"
"Missions are the heart of the Church". This is the title of the 2-minute video edited by the National Direction of the Polish Pontifical Mission Societies last October on the occasion of World Mission Day in Polish and now available in English, French and Spanish. The subject of this short video is the history of the Pontifical Mission Societies, their development and their relevance today. In the video, a hand outlines this history like a comic strip. It all starts from the heart of the Saviour who sends out the disciples with these words: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations".
The central figure is that of Blessed Pauline Jaricot, foundress in 1822 of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the first of the four Pontifical Missionary Societies. Through them the Pope takes cares of the many pastoral needs of the young Churches. At the end of the video, an invitation is addressed to all to live one’s missionary nature by virtue of the sacrament of baptism, listening to one’s hearts, putting one’s charisms at the service of others, and deepening what to be a missionary disciple means.
