Celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the National Direction of the Pontifical Society of Mexico
The National Direction of the Pontifical Society of Mexico reaches its 50-year milestone this year. "Celebrating 50 years means commemorating our history and the recognition of our journey, achievements and challenges. Furthermore, it is also an opportunity to thank the people who have contributed to the development of our institution - reads the bulletin -. It also means remembering our founders, recognizing their work and learning from the path they took. Celebrating our 50th anniversary is a way of strengthening our identity and renewing our commitment".
Many celebratory initiatives have been carried out since the beginning of the year, the first of which was the National Assembly of the diocesan directors of the PMS, around 60, held from January, 15 to 18, during which the President of the Mexican Episcopal Conference, the Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico, who also presided over the opening Mass, and Bishop José Armando Álvarez Cano, who presided over the closing Mass in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, took part.
At the opening of the Assembly, the Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, Father Antonio de Jesùs Mascorro Tristàn, MG, shared with everyone the joy of having received a message from Cardinal Parolin on behalf of the Holy Father in which Pope Francis imparted his blessing on the occasion of this anniversary and encouraged them to continue their commitment to missionary animation, formation and information since childhood.
On the other days, the activities of the Mexican PMS were discussed, initiatives for the Jubilee Year were presented, there were reports on evangelization, communication and tools at the service of the mission, and a specific space was dedicated to meetings regarding the provinces and future prospects.
The celebratory events include meetings with the bishops (April), during the Plenary Assembly and those with the Diocesan Seminaries (June). In September, it will be the turn of the Spiritual Exercises for animators of evangelization and on the 23rd of the same month, the opening of the OMPE Expo is planned, while from the 24th to the 27th the Missiological Symposium will be held at the Intercontinental University.
In November, the month in which the foundation date falls (November 28, 1974) there will be a meeting with those who worked at the National Direction and on November 16, the pilgrimage and national celebration with the Eucharist in the Basilica of Guadalupe.
