First edition of PUM2024 INTERNATIONAL ONLINE CONFERENCE begins
The Pontifical Missionary Union (PUM) launches an important initiative, in view of the upcoming jubilee and anniversaries scheduled for 2026, on Thursday 31 October, on the anniversary of its foundation.
It is not a celebratory moment but a worldwide appointment of missionary animation, referring to the motto of PUM's founder, Blessed Paolo Manna: ‘The entire Church for the entire world’.
The first edition of PUM2024 INTERNATIONAL ONLINE CONFERENCE, scheduled for next Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Rome time), was conceived and desired for the approaching not only of the Jubilee, but also of the significant anniversaries of 2026: the 100th anniversary of the first World Mission Day, the 110th anniversary of the foundation of the Pontifical Missionary Union and the 25th anniversary of the beatification of Blessed Paolo Manna (4 November 2001).
The Conference, in English, with the possibility of simultaneous translation in the main languages, is intended to be an attempt at global missionary animation, and a reinvigoration of the missionary spirit, with the voices of local realities as protagonists in an international horizon.
For this reason, Father Anh Nhue Nguyen OFM Conv, Secretary General of PUM, the creator and ‘soul’ of the initiative, will open the Conference and moderate it, giving space in the first part to three speeches by the directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies of Spain, Father José Maria Calderon Castro, of Poland, Father Maciej Będziński and of Austria, Father Karl Wallner Ocist, while in the second part entitled ‘Voices from the continents’ there will be space for a brief testimony of the continental coordinators of the PMS. The speakers will be Father Pontian Kawesa for Anglophone Africa, Father Jean Noel Gossou for Francophone Africa, Father Jafet A. Petrequin Ugalde for America, Father Pedige Basil R. Fernando for Asia and Father Antony Chantry for Europe.
PUM2024 INTERNATIONAL ONLINE CONFERENCE will conclude with a guided discussion on the themes that emerge from the reports.
